Why is this style of furniture called "Safari Furniture"?

You'll often hear the terms "safari furniture" and "campaign furniture" used synonymously. These terms were originally used to describe military campaign furniture. Back when the British Empire was out trying to conquor the world the officers had to travel with the luxuries they were accustomed to. Furniture was created specifically for the officer's use. They were designed to be easily assembled and broken down while being light enough to easily move around. During the Golden age of Safari, before roads and trucks, people on safaris would travel into the savannah on foot with caravans and would need luxury furniture that could be easily assembled and broken down while still being light weight. Safari companies utilized the designs originally created by armies to create furniture for this new purpose. Over the years, these designs have been modernized and redesigned for homes.

Where do you source your materials?

I try to source my materials locally when I can. As of this writing, I obtain most of my wood from local specialty shops here in Austin, TX. For the hides, I've ordered online before, but I've learned it is best to have a visual on what you're buying beforehand - specifically when it's being turned into a chair for your living room. I've found a distributer for hair-on-hide in the San Antonio, TX area that has been working out great. I've ordered my leathers from a number of distributers here in the US. The one I order from the most is a company owned by the Rowlings baseball company.

What exotic materials do you use?

I've built quite a few chairs using ethically sourced zebra hide and wildebeest hide. I have a giraffe hide chair in the works as well. Beyond that, if you want a chair made from a particular hide and I can obtain it ethically (or the client has it in their posession already), I'll build it.

What does your production/shipping time look like?

Generally, I can product a chair in 4-6 weeks - given I can obtain the materials fairly quickly. I try to keep exotics on hand, but if I don't already have what you're looking for, that will add to the production time. Including delivery time, you can expect to have your chair in approximately 5-7 weeks.

Do you ship internationally?

At this time, we're only shipping within the United States. We hope to expand to international shipping at some point down the line.

Do the chairs arrive assembled?

For the most part, they do not. If the chair you've ordered arrives dissembled, check out our Assembly Video or our PDF Assembly Instructions.

Can the chair dimensions be adjusted for custom orders?

Yes, we can work with you one-on-one to figure out proportionate dimensions that work with you.

Can I request a specific leather color outside of your current options?

Absolutely! I work with a number of great leather providers that can color match nearly any color. I'll send an example of the color you're looking for and the supplier will color the leather!
